Recycled magazine Xmas trees

Room 5 have been making Xmas trees using the old magazines that we accumulate at school. They folded each page 3 times to create the trees. They were then sprayed and covered with glitter to make them sparkly. They looked fantastic.

Wastewise certificate presented to Ryan

Ryan accepted the certificate from Shelley, our Wastewise facilitator, at assembly on behalf of the school. Ryan is one of our enthusiastic litter less lunch participators. He always has suitable lunch containers so that he doesn't need to use wrapped food items. The certificate recognizes the school's first year of participation in the contract.

Stacker Cups

Room 5 are practicing their stacker cup skills for the class competition. By the end of the year we hope to have a class champion. Stacker cups are great for improving coordination. Practising the routines improves the speed dramatically. We already have some budding champions.

Butterfly garden

We have been working on the murals and signs for our butterfly garden. Mrs Lomas has used the designs and messages we did last term in the signs and now we are painting them ready to erect in the garden.

Litterless Lunches

Today was the first of our Litterless Lunch Wednesdays. We did pretty well. We had over half the class bringing lunches that were litter free and most of the other students had only 1 item of packaged food in their boxes. We are aiming for 100% success on Wednesdays by the end of the year.

Our Butterfly Garden

Every class at school has a special area they are developing this year as a "Pride Project". We have an area just outside the classroom that is to become a butterfly garden. Unfortunately, we had to pull our huge swan plants out as they were dying and were badly infested with aphids. So we will need to grow some more for the monarch butterflies. Mr Mason kindly delivered us some mulch from his calf pens in the holidays and Mrs Murphy has brought some plants she had grown that attract butterflies so we are beginning to establish our garden. If anyone has plants at home they would like to donate we would be happy to receive them.
